You've invested the best in your sale horse every step of the way- the best training, the best feed, the best vets, the best farriers. Now it's time to advertise your sale horse to that same standard. Please carefully consider the quality of the media you submit, and refer to the guidelines below to ensure it is up to the precedent set by our program. Our success depends on your horse's marketability. If we feel the media submited is detrimental to this goal we will likely request new footage or additional pictures.

• Please fill out our Equine Fact Sheet thoroughly- proper descriptions ensure proper buyers. We are careful to advertise each horse honestly and are most successful when we know as much about the animal as possible.
• First impressions are everything, quality media is paramount.
  • Show ring videos and photos receive the best results.
  • Professionally shot videos and photos receive better results. We strongly encourage Sellers make use of professional photographers and videographers at horse shows.
  • Please take care to present the best impression in terms of horse and rider turnout if submitting schooling video. We encourage boots and breeches, collared shirt (i.e.: polo) or sweater of solid and conservative color, and neatly adjusted hair with an approved helmet of show quality. The horse should be dressed in the necessary equipment with conservative colored wraps and pads, if not traditional leather boots and a shaped pad. In short, dress in a manner that ensures the quality of the horse is the most apparent aspect of the video.
  • Listings with multiple quality photos receive greater attention than those with only one picture. Please send any photos you feel may advertise your horse well, we will carefully choose those we believe showcase him best, and will return all photos.
  • Your horse’s picture is the first thing a buyer evaluates, and his sole representation in print advertising. Each horse should have at least one quality, high resolution photo for this purpose. Pictures pulled from videos do not produce well in print and are not suitable. The same holds true for pictures pulled from the Internet.
  • Whenever possible pictures over fences should be submitted. Good flat shots (usually of the trot) and quality conformation shots are most beneficial when submitted with a quality jumping photo.
  • To ensure quality of photos is preserved we recommend mailing them with your video so we may scan them into our system. We return all media.
  • We are happy to transfer your VHS tapes to DVD but note VHS degrades rapidly with every transfer, including conversion to digital. If digital video is not available please submit first generation VHS tapes to ensure the best quality.

If you are shooting your own video please review my Sept. 07 article in the Plaid Horse- Turning Video Requests into Trials: Tips for producing a quality equine sale tape.

It is crucial that you stay in touch with us throughout your horse’s campaign. Sellers that do not respond to inquiries damage our reputation and do not help perpetuate sales. Also, your long term success relies on keeping us updated on your horse: Is he going to a show, did he win, do you have new pictures or video, etc. These details are posted on the home page of ExchangeHJ.com and will immediately increase your horse’s exposure by the thousands. This is vitally important for horses that do not sell immediately.
