What is The Exchange?
The Exchange is a full service Equine Advertising Agency that assists trainers and sellers by providing professional marketing for their Hunter Jumper sale horses. Horses listed with The Exchange are marketed directly to other Hunter-Jumper professionals through direct-mail DVD campaigns and DVD distribution at horse shows. Horses also benefit from print advertising and strategic web marketing. The horses represented in our advertising are offered for sale by their owners and/or trainers and not by The Exchange. Only horses listed with The Exchange can be listed on ExchangeHJ.com.
For more information on our Marketing Campaign visit our Sell A Horse section.
How do I request a DVD of a horse?
Email The Exchange and let us know what you are looking for and where you would like videos to be shipped. We have dozens of horses available and can likely select several that match your needs. DVDs are mailed free of charge.
We encourage all buyers to visit our Tips for Buyers page for details on how we can best handle your inquiry and assist in your search.
How do I contact the Seller of a horse?
We encourage professionals to contact Sellers directly. Contact information for Sellers is listed on each horse's web page. If you have trouble getting in touch with a Seller please let us know by emailing Amber@ExchangeHJ.com.
If you are an amateur or junior interested in a horse please contact The Exchange so we may assist in determining which listings are best suited for you. Given the large number of inquiries generated by The Exchange our Sellers prefer a basic screening of suitability for all nonprofessional buyers. We politely request that parents, juniors, and novice amateurs do not contact our sellers directly. Please also read our Tips for Buyers.
Does The Exchange take a commission in a sale?
No. All advertising conducted by The Exchange is handled on a flat fee basis. The Exchange does not take a commission on any horse and fully respects the commission rights of trainers and/or agents participating in a horse's purchase or sale.
What is your typical exposure?
The average breakdown for our various advertising strategies is:
- 1400 Video Catalogs mailed directly to HJ professionals
- 1500 Video Catalogs distributed at "A" rated horse shows
- 40,000 visitors & 20,000 videos downloaded each month on ExchangeHunterJumper.com
- New listings, or listings with new media/results to promote typically receive about 2,000 page views & 1,800 video downloads each month
- Older listings generally pull around 500 monthly video and page views
- 1200+ in our email campaigns, multiple campaigns each month
- 20,000+ in magazine exposure
- Additional exposure on other web sites
What is your rate of success?
Success greatly depends on the quality of your media, the appropriateness with which your horse is presented, and the current state of the market. When horse's are described honestly and partnered with appropriate pictures and quality video we find our success is impressive even in slow markets. In 2007 we were the advertising agent behind $1.2 million dollars worth of sold horses (I have not tallied 2008 numbers). Sellers report inquiries are frequent and legitimate: One listing sold within 10 days of appearing on ExchangeHJ.com, and most horses have trials scheduled within 2 weeks of appearing in our campaigns. To read more from our Sellers please visit our Testimonials page. To ensure your horse has the best chance to succeed with us please submit the best quality media possible.
How do I list my horse with The Exchange or on ExchangeHJ.com?
It's simple! Follow the steps on the Registration page, you can register online or by printing and mailing the registration documents.
Only horses registered for an Exchange Equine Marketing Campaign will be listed on ExchangeHJ.com.
Do you have a discount for multiple horses?
No. We spend equal amounts of time and advertising dollars for each horse that registers with us.
We recommend Sellers with a lot of horses to move select 5 or so of their best horses with the best media for marketing with us. Interest and phone calls generated by these well-marketed horses will benefit your entire sale program.
Sellers that market 3 or more horses at once can have links to their web site included on their horse's web page at ExchangeHJ.com.
Can I list my horse if I do not have photos or video?
No. To list a horse with The Exchange we require both photos and video of the horse. Horses will not be listed until both are available for Buyers.
What type of media can I submit my horse's video on?
We can accept videos on DVD, VHS, mini DVD and DV tape, or the raw video file types .MPG or .AVI. Videos can either be mailed to us or uploaded here. We will happily return your media free of charge. Please see our Media Specs page for additional information.
Can I submit the video we use on our web site, or a YouTube video?
No. Videos that have been processed for viewing on the internet have had their quality sacrificed for faster download times. Our videos are intended for final distribution on The Exchange Video Catalog DVD and will be viewed on TV screens of various sizes up to 72" or more. Please submit original, unedited and unprocessed footage.
Do you return the media I submit for my horse's listing?
Yes, we return all media free of charge after we transfer it to our system. Please be sure to label your photos and videos with horse's and Seller's name to facilitate this process. If you don't need your materials returned please also note that.
