Our commitment to quality, from photos to videos to horses, is the foundation of our success. Inferior photos and video do not sell horses, and we would prefer not to tarnish our success rate by using them. On average 5-10% of horses submitted to The Exchange are rejected for lack of suitable media. The following are guidelines to follow when evaluating your media for use in our advertising.
-
We strongly encourage the use of professional photographers and videographers. Not only is their timing and experience invaluable, the media produced by their equipment is far superior to that produced by most common cameras and camcorders.
-
In most instances we require show ring photos and video. Schooling video has never proven a viable alternative given the caliber of horses we market. Exceptions would be youngsters and unshown prospects.
-
If you are unsure about the suitability of your media for our Service we recommend visiting the category in which your horse would be listed on our web site. Compare your photos and video to those horses in that price range; these horses will be your direct competition for interest on our site.
-
You may also email us sample photos, a link to online video, and a description of your horse including age/height/breed/sex, past career, intended buyer, and asking price for a quick assessment as to whether the media would be suitable in our marketing.
PHOTOS:
-
You may submit as many quality photos as you like. Those we feel will truly benefit your advertising will be selected and used in our productions.
-
At least one high-quality, 300dpi resolution photo, preferably measuring at least 4 x 6", must be submitted for use in our print advertising endeavors. Photos taken off of the Internet are a resolution of 72 dpi and are not suited for this purpose.
-
Photos taken from video stills are of extremely poor quality and will not be accepted.
-
All professional photos must be accompanied by a release from the photographer.
Most photographers will grant rights to use purchased photos in equine sale ads, others will charge an additional fee. Please contact the photographer regarding their policy if you are unsure. By completing and submitting our Service Agreement you accept all legal responsibility for any photo you submit to The Exchange.
- Photos can be submitted three ways:
- By email attachment to Production@ExchangeHJ.com
- By upload at https://exchangehj.wufoo.com/forms/photo-upload/
- By snail mail, photos will be scanned into our system and returned
VIDEO:
If your video is on an authored DVD the easiest option is to mail it to us for transfer into our system. Files on an authored DVD cannot be copied and transferred - .VOB & .VTS are only container files and do not possess the actual film data. Video can be a finicky process: There are about a thousand ways to convert it and a hundred ways to output it. The result is a million variables in which we are fortunately well-versed. If you have questions about your video please call or email Amber. Below are some basic guidelines for those D.I.Y. types:
- Video is required for advertising. Production will not begin until video is received & approved.
- Preferred video format: .AVI - Select "DV-AVI" export setting in your video software
- Also accepted: .MPG, .MP4
- All other file types, including .MOV & .WMV, are not suited for DVD output & may be denied.
-
A note about YouTube videos: We cannot "retrieve" video from YouTube, we can only watch it. Additionally, we do not embed YouTube videos into our site - we have our own video platform that is a distinct part of our brand. If the only available video of your horse is on YouTube, and you do not have the original file used to upload this video, you can "Download a MP4" from YouTube and upload this file to our Dropbox. This can only be done by the administrator of the page the horse is located on, and is located in the "My Videos" section when they are logged on.
- We work closely with several videographers across the country and can often assist in securing quality show video for you.
- Videos may be submitted two ways:
- By snail-mail, video will be transferred into our system and returned.
- By upload to our Video Dropbox
In addition to posting on the Internet videos will be distributed on The Exchange Video Catalog DVD, a platform of considerably higher quality than anything achieved online. In order to obtain the best quality output on our DVD please submit the original video files. Files that have been processed for Internet viewing have had their quality degraded to accomplish this, and as such will not display nicely on a 67" flatscreen. As a general rule of thumb the larger the file size is the better the quality of video you will have. |
